In September, 2010, I decided to take advantage of “POP” Prostate On-Site Project’s mobile prostate screening unit which the City of Mesa makes available to its’ employees. It had been 9 months since my yearly screening. This was the best decision I could have ever made. The screening showed my PSA levels had doubled in less than a year. POP’s full time urologist followed up to make sure I had received the PSA report and recommended I contact my physician or urologist as soon as possible.
My physician suggested a biopsy which revealed that I had prostate cancer. I have since had surgery which resulted in very good prognosis. I encourage all men over 40 years of age and older to have yearly prostate screening performed as it can help detect prostate cancer early which can save your life. I am convinced it saved mine.
